Well hello there

So it’s officially been a month and a half since I last posted…

I wish I could say it was because I’ve been so busy that I had no time to put together a post. However, it was the opposite! After I finished my online class for the summer (which I got an A- in!!!), I had more free time after work to spend doing other things like…

Playing outside with my puppy (who is no longer a puppy at 130+ pounds!)…

Cooking and baking in my kitchen…

And laying on the couch with my honey…

(I know that isn’t a picture of us laying on the couch, but when we are both laying down, who is going to take the picture?? We haven’t trained Titan to do that sort of thing yet…)

Then, I took 11 days off of work at the end of June and relished in every moment of being at home with no schedule and very few things on my to-do list. It was amazing. I spent time outside relaxing, and lots of time inside doing some projects that were long overdue (like cleaning out the attic and basement…).

I’ve wanted to get back to my blog for awhile now, but I always found something else to do. Last night though, I was inspired to get back to it by a wonderful group of women!

Through the amazing power of Instagram, I found out a few weeks ago that Lindsay would be visiting VA this month. I told her that I would love to meet up with her while she was in the area and that day finally came yesterday. Sarah planned an awesome little dinner at The Local in Charlottesville for a small group of other VA bloggers. I was so thankful to still be included even though I haven’t been keeping up with blogging lately. I met some amazing women and hope to be able to stay connected with them since they are so close!

If you’re ever in the Charlottesville area, you definitely need to stop by The Local! I got the Honey Bee martini (for half price because I smiled at the bartender ;)) and the chipotle pork chop over mashed potatoes with shoestring sweet potatoes on top (yes, family, you read that right! I, Kristin Michelle,  ordered a pork chop at a restaurant). Absolutely delicious!

After dinner, Sarah did a little raffle and I was the very lucky recipient of a beautiful box of goodies from Feast. I can’t wait to try out everything, especially the Loquat White Balsamic Vinegar!!

It was so great connecting with these women and it was a wonderful reminder of how awesome this healthy living (and just bloggers in general!) community really is. Hopefully we’ll get together again for the camping trip at our place we started planning last night 🙂

Instagram is my new obsession

It’s been a really long time since I last posted!!

Lots of stuff has happened since then…the main thing being that I downloaded Instagram and am now obsessed!

Okay, so a lot of other much more important stuff has happened besides that, but it is so much fun 🙂 I just got it on Thursday and have already loaded over 20 pictures.

Of course I had to take some of my puppy…who had his first birthday at the end of February. He now weighs in at 131 pounds…but is still adorable as ever 🙂

I also had some pictures on my phone already that I played with.

Like this one of my honey with Titan, doing what they do best…

My honey and I had a YoungLife golf tournament to play in yesterday. He played regular golf, and us gals played putt putt.

Nice shot!

I got three hole-in-ones! And one of them was on the hardest hole!!

Here are a few other shots that I’ve gotten in the past few days. Seriously, I absolutely love this app and am truly obsessed!

The other awesome thing that happened in the past few months is that I got to see this cute little Easter bunny…

My entire family got together for Easter this year and the main focus was of course Ally 🙂 I plan to post more photos of her and the rest of the fam from the trip at another time. Of course, this is the busiest week of the school year for me, so I don’t think it will be this week, but I hope soon.

I miss posting a lot and getting to share pictures and recipes. But once May gets here, my work will slow down a lot and I hope to have more time over the summer to post.

Do you have Instagram? Are you as obsessed as I am?

Christmas Decorations

Originally, I didn’t want to get our Christmas tree until next week. This morning, however, our pastor (who lives a few miles down the road in our small town) said he wanted to come over and see our house once we got it all decorated. After hearing that, we decided to stop after church to pick up our tree and get started on the decorating process! Nothing like a little pressure from the pastor to get things done 🙂

We went back to the same place we went last year. A local couple has a very small sampling of trees that are quite a nice price. We only paid $20 this year and check out the beaut we got!

We drug out all of our Christmas decorations from the attic, turned on some Christmas music (Michael Buble Christmas station on Pandora is fabulous!!) and got started. I’m amazed at how much we got done in such a short amount of time actually!

I whipped up a batch of homemade hot chocolate, only this time I cut up a chocolate bar we had and melted that in the warm milk. I also added extra kahlua and some Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder…talk about a little slice of heaven in a mug 🙂

My mother-in-law got us a set of these awesome mugs as an early Christmas present!

While my honey took care of our stair banister, I put myself in charge of lighting the tree. I’m very proud to say it only took me one try to get the lights perfect 🙂

We picked up some LED lights last year to decorate with and then after Christmas we picked up some more on sale. They are much different than the traditional ones, but fun in a different way!

I had some fun with my camera and got this shot.

I simply zoomed in with the lens as I snapped the picture. My shutter speed was only 1/5 so it was open long enough to make the cool effect.

We had some help putting up all of the lights and decorations, but he got tired pretty quickly and decided to park it on the couch.

We always said we wouldn’t let him up on the couch, but lately we just haven’t been saying no. However, we have laid down one of my college blankets so he doesn’t get hair all over the cushions.

I made my honey take more pictures of me with Titan today because in going through all of the photos we have of him, I realized there are barely any of me with him.

We still have ornaments to put on the tree and lots of lights to put up outside, but at least we’ve got a start on it all! We didn’t put up lights outside last year, so it will be exciting to do it this year. I can’t wait to see the whole house lit up 🙂

On a completely unrelated note….I downloaded Angry Birds Seasons to my phone…big mistake!! I’m addicted!! It’s fun to have the snow falling on the levels and to see the Santa hats on the little piggies though 🙂

Titan’s Boots

Let me explain…

As I mentioned in the post about our house renovations, we have hardwood floor that is literally hundreds of years old. It is called heart pine and is actually pretty soft. We were only a little concerned about our floors at first, but after realizing that Titan didn’t go crazy in the house too often, the floors were probably safe. However, in doing some deep cleaning of the floor, we noticed a few scratches here and there.

We still didn’t think it was bad enough, so we only joked about getting these boots.

Then, we started noticing how much he would slip on both the wood floor and on the tile in the kitchen. If he was sitting there, his front paws would slide out from him and he would struggle to stand up. This is especially so in the kitchen, but it is an issue in the cabin as well.

At first, it was sort of funny to watch him try to stand up or to watch him slip and slide around the kitchen when he got excited. But then, I started thinking more about how much of an issue it might become. I thought about times that I’ve slipped before and how much of a strain it can be on your muscles and ligaments, etc. So I started thinking the same thing might be happening to Titan.

Since we don’t want him to get hurt, we started seriously talking about these boots. After talking more about it, we saw that there would be another benefit to him wearing these boots inside the house…less dirt and dust on the floor since his dirty feet would be covered up!

The first time he put them on, it was absolutely hysterical! He would pick his paws up really high off the ground like he was almost prancing (which he sort of does anyway!). My honey actually videoed him walking a bit when we put the back ones on for the first time.

We’ve had the boots for about a week now and although it is quite the task to put them on him, it has been really great. The floor still gets lots of hair from him, but there isn’t nearly as much dust. They really do provide traction for him so I know he is less likely to pull something.

The added bonus we didn’t even know about? They actually calm him down! He isn’t nearly as rambunctious when he comes in the house once we put them on. It’s awesome!!! He’s just much more chilled out for some reason.

I highly recommend these goofy boots if you have a pup who slides on or scratches your floors. There are also ones for pets to wear outside too, but we’re not planning on getting him those ones.

So there you have it folks, the reasoning behind buying our puppy boots! Please help me feel less crazy for doing this to my pet and say you understand!! 🙂

Do you have boots/shoes for your pets?

A Friday evening list

This photo has nothing to do with my list...but I promise I will post more from this photo shoot soon!

1. My honey is at a conference, so Titan and I will be enjoying a nice, productive, but relaxing evening together!

2. Drinking hot chocolate before bed isn’t a good idea if you want to get a good night’s sleep.

3. I’m working on a post about my honey. I’m thinking of revealing his name…

4. I’m pretty much addicted to “How I Met Your Mother.” I sort of have an inappropriate crush on Barney, aka Neil Patrick Harris, aka Doogie Howser. Look him up. He’s legendary.

5. We bought Titan boots/slippers/shoes. I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but I’m really excited to show you a picture soon because it is just funny!

6. I have a busy weekend with two photo shoots and two shows for my other business. I’ll be making the dolla dolla bills ya’ll!! (Which I will promptly spend on cashews to make more cashew butter and cookies!)

7. I’m still working on my recipe page…just need to find a few more hours in the day!

8. I’m going to have my Tuesday Trainer video submitted by Sunday night! I’m going to have my Tuesday Trainer video submitted by Sunday night! I’m going to have my Tuesday Trainer video submitted by Sunday night! (If I keep saying it, it’ll actually happen :))

10. So glad it’s Friday!!!!

Quick Sunday Recap

We had quite the eventful day today, but I’m super tuckered out from it, so I’m going to make this quick!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for my honey! I greatly appreciate it 🙂 He went to sleep at 9pm last night…then I remembered that I had to set the clocks back, so really he went to sleep at 8pm. He woke up at 8am this morning…he must have really been tired! Although he wasn’t feeling 100%, he said he was feeling better. I gave him more tea and more supplements to start the day.

I woke up at 5:30am to let Titan out and feed him. I decided to just stay up and get some stuff done around the house. Plus, I wanted to do a killer upper body workout, so I took advantage of the time alone. I did the following workout, which is a combo of a few Oxygen mag workouts.

  • Bench Press 2×15
  • Seated row 2×20
  • Bent-over row 2×20
  • Lat pulldown 2×12
  • Good morning 2×15
  • Arnold press 2×15
  • Seated press 2×15
  • Reverse curl 2×10
  • Hammer curl 2×12
  • Biceps curl 2×12
  • Triceps kickback 2×12
  • One-arm triceps extension 2×10
  • Triceps pushdown 2×12
  • Dumbbell pull and press 2×10
  • Rear delt row 2×15
  • Lateral raise to front pull 2×12
  • Overhead dumbbell arc 2×12

It was awesome and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be feeling it tomorrow! I did an upper body workout on Friday, and although I hadn’t planned on doing another one today, I figured I might as well since it had been 48 hours since I did the last one. Plus, I wasn’t sure when I would have time to do such an intense workout again.

As I mentioned the other day, I set out a 5 day plan for my workouts. Today, I was supposed to go for an 8 mile hike with my honey. However, I sort of forgot that we had nursery duty at church at 11am. Because the hike is about an hour and a half away and would take approximately 5 hours to complete, there was no feasible way we could make it out there and back before it got too dark. So instead, we took our pup for a 4 mile hike closer to our house. This was the second time we’ve done that hike, but it was Titan’s first time!

I’d say someone was excited!!!

Actually, he wasn’t…he seemed so tired, but he surprised us all by making it the whole time and still had energy to spare at the end!

Before we headed home for the hike, we went out for pizza at a local restaurant that now serves gluten-free meals. I haven’t had pizza in quite some time, so I was excited to try it out. Check out what I got with the pizza.

My very own pizza slicer! The server even let me take it home with me! The pizza looks really appetizing doesn’t it? It was actually pretty good, but you could definitely tell that it was pre-made and frozen…oh well. At least I got some pizza!

Anyways, back to the hike. I took almost 300 pictures on our hike, so I am going to have to recap the whole thing tomorrow. But for now, I will leave you with my favorite picture from today.

How was your Sunday?

Yep, snow in October!

So I guess the weather people were correct!

I woke up in the middle of the night to see that it had already started snowing. By the time I woke up to let Titan out, we had over an inch on the ground. I was concerned that he wouldn’t go out since he had never seen snow before.

Luckily, he LOVED it!! As soon as I let him out, he immediately tried eating all of the snow in his path. It was quite comical! This picture was taken a few hours later after he had already gotten used to it.

We took some fun videos on our phones of Titan playing in the snow, but I have yet to figure out how to upload them. Maybe later today I’ll figure it out!

We lost power, but luckily my honey and his dad fixed our generator, so I was only without it for an hour or so.

Enjoy some other photos I’ve taken today. I hope to take some more later after we build a snowman 🙂

And finally, a photo of a little tree in our front yard that I jazzed up a bit.

It hasn’t stopped snowing since I woke up and I’d say we have at least 3 inches now. Who knows when it will stop snowing, so I’m off to be super productive inside and get stuff done!

Have a good one 🙂
