Weekend review in Instagram pics

It’s been a super busy 5 days for me with different get togethers with friends, shows for my part time job, studying and doing assignments for my class, plus trying to keep up with everything around the house.

Luckily I had Saturday all to myself and I got a bunch of stuff done. I also took a bunch of Instagram photos because I’m obsessed 🙂

I’ll let them do most of the talking today!

Sunrise on Saturday morning at about 5:30am. This is pretty much the view from my bed, which is amazing during the summer!

My honey and his dad spent all Saturday morning washing one of their tractors to get it ready for the haymaking season. Welcome to my #farmlife.

Honeysuckle is truly my favorite part of the spring! The beautiful scent wafts through the air all around our house since the flowers are everywhere.

I did an awesome workout on Saturday and I’m still feeling it today! I ran 1.5 miles then did three rounds of 20 push ups, 20 burpees, 50 jumping jacks, 20 jump squats and 20 jump lunges. All while getting loads of vitamin D and a little tan 🙂

And no, my legs are not really that tan…at least not yet!

Saturday night I made steak kabobs on the grill for my honey. I decided we needed a biscuit to go along with them, so I whipped up a version of the strawberry shortcake biscuit with less honey and no vanilla. They were perfect!

Since I didn’t take Titan for a walk or run yesterday, I took him out this morning. It was the perfect way to spend the morning before church.

For dinner tonight, I had chips and spicy guacamole! Seriously, that was all I had.

I didn’t post this picture to Instagram, but it’s too funny not to share. I took my books and my computer outside to do some homework on Sunday and look who decided to join me!

This one didn’t get posted either, but that’s because I wanted to share the news here. Thanks to some awesome friends and Groupon, this is happening in the near future 🙂

Yep, that’s right. My honey and I are going skydiving!!!! I’m beyond excited! We’ve talked about it for the past two years and always said it was too expensive. Well, a friend (who knew we wanted to go) called on Friday and told me she found an amazing deal on Groupon for a place in the area. I jumped on it and have not stopped thinking about it since! I can’t wait for it to actually happen and I promise I will share all the details.

Have you ever been skydiving? Please share! Anything exciting happen this weekend for you?

7 things

Lately, I haven’t had time to post as much as I’d like. It takes awhile to put together something and then try to include a picture to make whatever I’m talking about more visually appealing (and I’ve been doing a crappy job at that!). It’s a lot of extra time added into my already busy schedule. However, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing awesome things that I want to share with you all, so I figured I’d just sum up most of it with a list instead!

  1. We bought 1/4 of a cow from the people we get milk from. It was completely grass-fed and was never given an antibiotic or hormone. It’s the cleanest meat I could buy! I ended up with 44 lbs of ground beef, and about 15 steaks. I gave the roasts to my mother-in-law and decided against the ribs. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about buying beef so the steaks are incredibly thick! My poor honey!
  2. I’ve been keeping up with my workouts, but I’ve been finding it harder and harder to get excited about the workouts I used to do. Last Friday, I ran two miles, and then on Sunday, I ran another 3.5. I really needed to stretch, so I looked up some yoga videos on YouTube. Luckily, I found flexiblewarrioryoga and have regained my love for my practice! I did a few stretches and some sun salutations and felt incredible. I also downloaded a Yoga app for my Mac today and hope to learn more poses and create some of my own routines with it. I’ve been doing some sort of  yoga every day this week and don’t plan to stop! It just brings such a calmness and mindfulness to the rest of my day when I start out with it.
  3. I am working on a photography post, highlighting some of the sessions I’ve done recently. You’re going to have to wait until next week to see it though because I have an engagement session scheduled for the day after Christmas!
  4. Remember when I told you about the coconut oil I bought online? Well, I am absolutely in love with that website and I have recently ordered lots of other coconut goodies 🙂 None of them have come in yet, so you’ll have to wait on the review of the products, but I have no doubt they will be incredible! Just browsing the site has also stirred a lot of curiosity in me about apple cider vinegar and fasting. I promise there will be more to come on both as I finish up my first water fast today and still have more to read in the apple cider vinegar book I found online.
  5. I finally broke down and bought my honey some protein powder. I’ve been sort of hemming and hawing about the price and the nutrition of the brands out there, so I never bought any. In researching whey protein from grass-fed cows, I found some on Swanson’s website. I ordered the chocolate for my honey and waited patiently for it. I learned something new about my honey when he first tried the stuff…he had some bad experience when he was younger with clumps in a powdered shake! He didn’t elaborate, but my method of putting the milk and the powder in a half-pint mason jar and shaking is not working for him! The taste of it is also interesting…you can tell it is fake sweetener and a lot of it! I haven’t really asked if it keeps him full, but I think it does a good enough job.
  6. I’ve watched some incredible documentaries lately and have been so inspired! Mostly they are reaffirming the reasons I want to live a healthy lifestyle, but I’m learning a lot of new stuff. I want to take my time to write down my thoughts about each one of them, so again, you’ll have to wait. Check out information about Max Gerson if you get the chance. Three of the documentaries are about his therapy that has cured cancer…it is so incredible to see!
  7. I finished my Christmas cards!!! Only they won’t be here until at least the 23rd…oops!

It’s been a very nice and relaxing day off and I actually accomplished a lot on my list! There are still so many more things I need to do, but I’ve got plenty of time 🙂

Concert fun!

Here we are a whole week after the concert and I’m just now getting around to recapping it! It’s been a busy week!

Last Saturday night, my honey and I went to a Tim McGraw concert with some friends. Opening for him was The Band Perry and Luke Bryan (swoon!). I was really excited for this because I absolutely love all of these artists!

We got there early and made it to our ‘seats’ on the lawn in plenty of time. I took advantage of the downtime to take some pictures before it got too dark!

A little farming humor.

Our friends who came with us! Thanks for driving through the crazy traffic for us!

Side note: what is with the outfits people choose to wear in public?!? Maybe I don’t get out enough, but there were some questionable clothing choices at the concert…

I, on the other hand, kept things plain and boring!

Onto the music! The Band Perry started the concert off on the right foot! They were pretty energetic and played their more upbeat songs at first. They did play “If I Die Young” but it wasn’t as slow and serious as I expected it to be. They only played about 5 songs, and I really wish they would have had more time to play because they have some awesome songs!

Luke Bryan came on next and blew me away! First of all, I totally have a crush on him. I feel like I’m in fourth grade again when I would pull on Billy’s hair on the school bus because I thought that’s how you said “I like you!” If Luke (yes, we’re on a first name basis ;)) were around right now, I would surely try to pull his hair in hopes he would get the message!!

Second of all, that man’s got some moves!!! He really knows how to dance! I just wish we had been closer so I could have seen it better 🙂

He played a lot of his high-energy songs that I love, but also played a few of his serious songs like “Do I.” During the song “Shake It” some older, portly gentlemen came out on stage dressed in cut-off jean shorts, blonde wigs and pink belly shirts that said “Country Girl” It was hysterical! You could tell that Luke wasn’t expecting it at all. He sort of lost it laughing at them dancing around. One guys’ shorts actually started falling down revealing his tighty-whities!

After seeing Luke running around the stage with so much energy, I started wishing he was the main act! I could have watched him all night…

I mean seriously, who wouldn’t drool over this??

I digress…

Tim McGraw finally came out and actually tricked the audience. Instead of appearing on the stage, he started out in the middle of the crowd towards the back. How cool is that? He sang three or four songs from there and then made his way to the front while singing another song. As soon as he started singing (the BBQ stain song!) everyone else did too! You could barely hear him (especially since the guy next to me was singing at the top of his lungs!!). While that’s fun and all, I was a little disappointed because I came to hear him sing, not everyone else.

In total, he probably sang over 20 songs, which is pretty impressive. Although I enjoyed being able to hear so many songs, I really wish he had taken some time to talk to us as well. I felt like I was just listening to a CD.

Another thing that annoyed me about Tim McGraw was his cockiness. He would just throw his arms out to the sides and stand there expecting everyone to cheer for him. Once or twice would be fine, especially when he first got out there and when he left the stage, but he did it multiple times throughout the show. Yes, he’s a great singer (and not too bad to look at), but really he should take a lesson from Luke and be a little more thankful that we were there paying to see him. I don’t think I will be going to another Tim McGraw concert simply because of his cockiness.

Luke is actually playing at our county fair next week, but we won’t be able to go see him 😦 Oh well! I can still drool over him in videos like this one. (for some reason it won’t let me add it to the post…anyone know how to fix that?)

Go to about minute 3 and you’ll get to hear his sweet southern drawl and see his rugged good looks 🙂

What’s the best concert you’ve been to?

Ice Cream!

Warning: this post contains no photos of ice cream! (just didn’t want you to be disappointed once you figure that out!) There is a recipe though!

Yesterday was our town’s ice cream social. It’s a chance for the community to get together and raise money for our local museum. The flavors of ice cream range from mint chocolate chip, mountain berry and butter pecan, to plain vanilla, chocolate or strawberry to Grape Nut. You read that right. Grape Nut, as in the cereal, ice cream. Raise your hand if you’ve ever had it! It’s a town favorite and my honey looks forward to it every year.

Our museum

A few different vendors come out and sell some of their homemade products and the Ruritan Club sells BBQ chicken. This year there was a lady who makes soaps and salves. I bought two salves and a face mask from the woman that I’ll talk about in another post.

The town fire department sets up a tent and tries to recruit more volunteers. They also give tours of the ambulance and give kids plastic fire hats!

There is always some sort of entertainment. In the past two years, it’s been an Elvis impersonator who was fabulous! This year the changed it up and had a couple who sang and played the keyboard. They were okay, but not as entertaining as Elvis!

The line for the ice cream is always long! My honey decided that he didn’t want to wait in the line in the sun, so he got a kid to go wait in line for him!!! I decided not to get any ice cream because I had it Saturday night and I was planning to make it again for dinner.

We brought our pup who did so well!! He was really hot, so we just kept him in the shade the whole time and gave him plenty of water.

One of my favorite little munchkins was there too!

The social is always a fun event and it’s a chance to reconnect with people we haven’t seen in a few months. It was an absolutely gorgeous day with less humidity than we’ve experienced in a long time! It was still scorching, but much more bearable.

After the social, we headed home to get ready for some friends who would be joining us for dinner. I made a gluten-free pizza crust (in the food processor!) and homemade sauce, then topped it with chicken, squash, zucchini, onions, spinach, tomatoes and three kinds of cheese! It was out of this world 😀

For dessert, I whipped up a new recipe in my food processor.

I love ice cream and always have. I could eat it every day. I finally bought a Cuisinart ice cream maker (because the tubs at the store are loaded with sugar and it was getting expensive!) and it was honestly the best $35 I spent! I have a recipe for ice cream with milk and cream, which I love, but I kept reading about using frozen bananas as a soft serve. I’m not too fond of bananas on their own, so I kept putting off making that. However, I stumbled on a recipe with peaches along with the banana. Now that is something I could try!

Raw Peach-Banana Ice Cream (inspired by this recipe from Sketch-free Vegan Eating)

2 peaches

2 bananas

splash of cream

Peel and cut up bananas and peaches, and then pop them in the freezer for a few hours. Blend them in a food processor or blender with a little cream until smooth. The cream adds a little protein and extra creaminess, but you could just use water. Put mixture into bowl(s) and place in the freezer. Stir every 15 minutes or so until it gets to the consistency you want. I was too impatient to wait until it was really frozen, so it was pretty soft when I ate it. Serve and enjoy!

I was really surprised how good it was! The recipe I found also suggested using kiwi, so I picked up a few at the store Sunday morning so I could make peach-banana-kiwi ice cream for Sunday night! While the flavor was really great with this one, the texture was a little different because of the kiwi. It just doesn’t get as smooth as the other two fruits. Either way, it was a great alternative to regular sugar-laden ice cream and I will definitely be making lots more of it. I’m so stinkin’ excited to have that food processor!!!!

Have you ever had Grape Nut ice cream? What’s the weirdest flavor ice cream/frozen yogurt you’ve ever had??

Food Processing

Remember last week when I said I needed to get a food processor- STAT? Well, the appliance angels were smiling down on me yesterday!!!

My friend Amanda has one that she got from her mother-in-law. Neither one of them uses it!!! She’s letting me borrow it for awhile 😀 I’ve had it for less than 24 hours and I’ve already made three recipes with it and I plan to make two more tonight 🙂 I promise I will post them when I get a chance!

My honey, the pup and I are headed down to an ice cream social at our town’s museum! It’s one of the big social events of the year, so I’ll recap tonight hopefully!

What is your favorite food processor recipe??
